Not all broken noses need plastic surgery in order to heal. However, there are certainly many instances when rhinoplasty after a nasal injury such as a broken nose can be beneficial to repair the aesthetics and/or functionality of your nose.

What Can Broken Nose Reconstruction Do?

In some cases, Rhinoplasty is a great option to repair a broken nose and can improve the appearance and function of your nose. In other cases, the nasal bones may break, but the bones are still approximated enough to heal on their own.

If a nasal fracture that needs attention is left to heal on its own, a broken nose could result in permanent changes to the shape, straightness, or symmetry of your nose. Depending on the severity of the injury, a facial plastic surgeon may recommend rhinoplasty to minimize these changes in aesthetics or function.

In some cases, nasal trauma can cause breathing problems that would need to be corrected via broken nose reconstruction in order to restore the functionality of your nose.

If your facial plastic surgeon feels your injury could put you at risk for nasal obstruction or a permanent deviation of your nose, they may also recommend a nose reconstruction procedure.

How Soon Should You See a Plastic Surgeon after a Broken Nose?

It is best to talk to a facial plastic surgeon within 7 to 10 days after sustaining a broken nose, before bones begin to heal and set on their own. If you are experiencing breathing problems after a broken nose, see a facial plastic surgeon as soon as possible.
