IPL Skin Rejuvenation

Our skin wears the marks of the life we have lived. In some cases, these marks are badges of honor. In other cases, they are blemishes that we would rather live without. If you have hyperpigmentation or vascular lesions, IPL skin rejuvenation can help.

At our office near Boston Common, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments are highly popular to target specific areas of the skin, improving pigmentation, tone and texture. It works on a wide variety of skin types and tends to deliver excellent results.

When to Consider IPL Skin Rejuvenation

The most common reasons people get IPL skin rejuvenation are:

  • Addressing the results of long-term sun damage
  • Resolving hyperpigmentation
  • Eliminating visible veins and capillaries
  • Reversing premature aging

Before Your IPL Skin Rejuvenation

You should stop smoking or using any products containing nicotine for at least 6 weeks before your appointment. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily to keep your skin protected. Focus on being well hydrated for at least several weeks before your treatment. It is important to disclose any acne medication you are on as this may need to be discontinued.

You will need to stop using medications that cause excess bleeding and discontinue antibiotics unless told otherwise (delaying treatment could be the better option). You also must stop using any topical or oral products and medications that cause skin sensitivity. On the day of your procedure, clean your skin and do not apply makeup or other skincare products.

Your IPL Skin Rejuvenation Procedure

During your treatment, the IPL device emits pulses of light that turn into heat when applied to your skin. This heat helps trigger collagen and elastin production while also breaking up pigmentation. Topical anesthetic can be used to dull any discomfort.

The procedure usually lasts somewhere between 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. Once complete, select skin products will be applied and your provider will speak to you about how to care for your skin as you heal.

After Your IPL Skin Rejuvenation Treatment

You will need to completely avoid UV rays for the first week after treatment and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen on the treated area daily. Any UV ray exposure can compromise the quality of your results and cause injury.

You should also focus on proper hydration as you heal. While your skin may not be as red or sensitive as it would be with some other procedures, it will still be healing and needs lots of water for this process.

Your New Look

After IPL skin rejuvenation, you should quickly see the results. Most people are fully enjoying their new skin within a month of treatment. As with all skin rejuvenation treatments, more than one session may be required to achieve results.

If you are ready to address hyperpigmentation and vascular lesions, our skilled aesthetic staff is here to help. Contact us online or call our Boston office at 857-350-4205 to schedule your IPL skin rejuvenation consultation.
