If Your Nose Job Looks Weird at First, Don’t Panic

Weird Nose After Rhinoplasty - Dr Ezzat

If you’ve recently had a nose job and think your nose looks a little off, don’t start thinking about a revision just yet. Swelling after rhinoplasty is very common and can make your nose look temporarily larger than usual, so give yourself some time to rest and recover before assessing your result.

In the meantime, take a look at some of the facts about your rhinoplasty recovery timeline to help keep your mind at ease.

Swelling Will Obscure Your Initial Results

You can expect a moderate amount of swelling in the first few weeks after your nose job, so don’t get too caught up in looking at your results just yet. Many people also find that swelling in the tip of the nose takes longer to resolve than swelling in the bridge of the nose.

Swelling Should Go Away in 1 to 3 Months

Most swelling after a nose job should diminish within three months, so you should have a good idea of what your final nose shape and size will look like around this time. However, it can take a year or more for your final rhinoplasty results to develop.

Most people feel up to going back to work and social events around two weeks after a nose job.

You Can Help Swelling Resolve More Quickly

While swelling can’t be avoided altogether, there are some things you can do to help it go away faster:

  • Keep your head elevated while resting and sleeping
  • Use cold compresses, especially within the first 48 hours after your procedure
  • Avoid salty foods, which can worsen swelling
