Injectable Fillers

One of the most common effects of aging is a loss in facial volume. As tissue thins, the natural facial folds near the mouth can become more pronounced, leaving creases in places like the nasolabial folds. Injectable dermal fillers are designed to temporarily restore lost volume, smooth out deep creases and bring a more youthful shape to the face.

At our office near Boston Common, injectable fillers from Restylane® are one of the best ways to remove wrinkles and plump areas of the skin and lips. The Boston Center for Facial Plastics provides a comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation focused on natural-looking results customized to each individual’s anatomy.

Fillers We Offer

We are proud to offer the complete line of Restylane brand hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, including Restylane Kysse. Here’s a summary of how this family of fillers can create a dramatically more youthful and attractive appearance:

  • Restylane® Refyne – Refine your laugh lines and enjoy smoother skin while still maintaining a natural look while smiling and enjoying life.

  • Restylane® Lyft – Treat signs of aging in both your face and hands with this special formulation of Restylane that can restore volume to the skin.

When to Consider Facial Fillers

Some of the best reasons to consider getting injectable fillers include:

  • Deep facial creases lead to a drooping look
  • A loss of facial volume caused by thinning tissue
  • Facial asymmetry in the nose or lips
  • Deep, pitted scars
  • Thin lips

The best candidates for dermal fillers are in good mental and physical health and have realistic expectations for their outcome.

Before Getting Injectable Fillers

Before you have facial filler injections, you’ll have a private consultation with either Dr. Ezzat or one of his aestheticians. During your consultation, you’ll have a chance to learn about the different types of injectable fillers and decide on the best option for you. Some fillers are better suited for very specific areas, like scars, while others are more effective in wider areas, such as the cheeks. You should avoid medications that thin the blood for 2 weeks and alcohol for a couple of days before your appointment.

Depending on your appearance goals, Dr. Ezzat may suggest additional treatments to use in conjunction with dermal fillers. It’s common for people to use BOTOX® Cosmetic to address dynamic wrinkles beside the eyes or between the brows, and including this noninvasive treatment with your fillers can result in a more comprehensive outcome. Fat injections can offer a natural alternative to synthetic dermal fillers.

Your Dermal Filler Injections

Injections are quick and simple, earning them the nickname “lunchtime treatments.” In most cases, a simple cold compress is all that is necessary to comfortably inject the filler material.  In some cases, Dr. Ezzat will apply a topical numbing cream to the injection sites. The product is then injected into the regions of the face that are being augmented.

After Getting Injectable Fillers

You do not need to schedule downtime after your facial filler appointment, and you may resume your daily routine as soon as you leave our office. However, you will likely develop some pinkness, swelling or light bruising around the injections, so it’s a good idea to bring some makeup with you. Regular massaging of the area injected is required within the first 24 hours.

In addition, you should avoid participating in strenuous activities for the next 24 hours, as this may cause the product to move. Using ice or a cold gel pack to soothe the treated areas can help expedite healing. You should see your final results within 2 weeks of your appointment.

Your New Look

After getting fillers, you should appear as natural as ever, but with an added youthful quality caused by smoother, firmer-looking skin. Deep creases and pitted scars should be reduced, while lips that have been augmented should appear full and balanced. Most people who get fillers maintain their appearances by scheduling routine treatments spaced 6 months to 1 year apart, depending on the type of filler used. Your injector can advise you on the best treatment plan for you.

Injectable Fillers FAQ

How much do injectable fillers cost?

The cost of your fillers will depend on the type of filler you choose, how many syringes are needed to achieve the desired effect, your location and other factors. On average, hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers cost around $650 per syringe.

Other types of fillers generally cost more than HA fillers. $700 to $900 is the average cost of fillers that consist of collagen and synthetic compounds.

How do I choose the best provider for fillers near me?

Choose a provider near you who is experienced administering injectable fillers and who has excellent client reviews. Achieving smooth, natural-looking results requires not only technical skill but also an artistic ability and an eye for detail. So be sure to look at before and after photos to give you an idea of the level of results you might be able to expect from a particular provider.

While cost is often an important aspect of the decision to get fillers, avoid choosing a filler provider based solely on the price. Make sure your provider is or works under the guidance of a board-certified facial plastic surgeon to avoid unnecessary complications and risks.

What type of filler is best for me?

The best kind of filler for you will depend on a number of factors, including your cosmetic goals, natural facial anatomy, personal preferences and others. Hyaluronic acid fillers are among the most common types of fillers. They typically produce smooth, natural-looking results and can also be dissolved if you are unhappy with your results for any reason. Other types of fillers will need to fade away on their own in order to return to your normal appearance.

Do fillers hurt?

Most people report feeling only a slight prick or discomfort when getting fillers. A topical numbing cream can be applied to the area prior to injections to help keep you as comfortable as possible.

Afterward, you may experience mild discomfort, swelling and bruising in the treated area(s). However, these side effects are usually mild and should diminish on their own within the next day or so.

Is there downtime after getting fillers?

No, there is no downtime to be expected after your filler appointment. This is why these treatments are often referred to as “lunchtime procedures” — you can expect to get right back to work and other daily activities after your appointment.

However, you should avoid very strenuous physical activity and may have to massage the treated area for the first 24 hours after getting fillers.

How soon will I see results from fillers?

It can take up to two weeks to see your final filler results, as swelling and bruising need time to gradually resolve, and the filler can take some time to settle into place. For this reason, Dr. Ezzat recommends scheduling your filler appointment at least two weeks before an important event.

How long do fillers last?

Fillers can last anywhere from 6 to 18 months, depending on the type of filler, as well as your body’s metabolism rate.
