Nearly all facial cosmetic procedures have risen in popularity over the past year, according to new data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). This increase in requests for facial plastic surgeries has been spurred by not only advancements in medical technology and surgical techniques but also a greater focus on appearing more vibrant and youthful while maintaining a very natural look.
Here, Dr. Ezzat breaks down the five most popular facial plastic surgeries this year, according to the ASPS data and what might make them so popular.
1. Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery, also called blepharoplasty, remained the most popular facial cosmetic procedure, with more than 120,000 eyelid surgeries performed in 2023 – a 5% increase from the previous year. This procedure is popular among both men and women, as it can address sagging skin, puffiness, and bags around the eyes that can otherwise cause a tired or aged appearance. Eyelid surgery may also be a popular choice because it is less involved than some other facial plastic surgeries, yet can achieve dramatic, natural-looking results.
2. Facelift
Facelifts saw the biggest jump in popularity within the last year, with 8% more facelifts having been performed in 2023 compared to 2022. Like eyelid surgery, facelifts are popular among both men and women and can have a dramatic effect on your appearance. On average, facelifts can take around 12 years off your appearance, making them an appealing procedure.
3. Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasties, commonly called nose jobs, are also on the rise, coming in as the third most popular facial procedure in 2023. Rhinoplasty can significantly alter the appearance and function of your nose, improving both aesthetic and medical aspects. According to the ASPS report, rhinoplasty appeals to a wide demographic, from younger individuals wanting to enhance their facial symmetry to older patients addressing age-related changes in nasal structure. The continued popularity of rhinoplasty is attributed to its ability to provide dramatic, yet natural results, boosting confidence and self-esteem.
4. Facial Fat Grafting
Facial fat grafting is emerging as a popular choice for those looking to restore lost facial volume and achieve a more youthful look. This procedure involves harvesting fat from other parts of the body and injecting it into areas of the face that have thinned or sunken in over time. The growing interest in facial fat grafting is likely due to its dual benefits of contouring the body while rejuvenating the face, as well as its natural approach to facial plastic surgery.
5. Chin Liposuction
With more people working from home and spending more time looking at their facial profiles on video calls, we’ve continued to see an increase in requests for chin liposuction to treat a “double chin.” This procedure is minimally invasive, yet can permanently remove unwanted fat cells in the submental, or under-chin, area, creating a better defined and smoother jawline.
