Dr. Waleed Ezzat was recently featured in the summer 2020 edition of Inspire Magazine. In the article, ‘An Unrivaled Commitment to Excellence,’ he shared how he was able to help Cathy Frank, a mother and devoted grandmother, feel and look like herself again after tumor removal Mohs surgery.

As a board-certified facial plastic surgeon and the director of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Ezzat is a highly sought-after facial plastic surgeon for aesthetic and reconstructive procedures for the face, head and neck.

Reconstruction after Mohs Surgery

When Cathy was first diagnosed with adnexal eccrine carcinoma—a rare and aggressive form of cancer of the sweat glands, she was quickly referred to Dr. Ezzat by Dr. Michael Platt, Cathy’s friend and otolaryngology physician.

Dr. Platt knew that there was no one better to perform Cathy’s reconstruction after Mohs surgery than Dr. Ezzat. “I just had full confidence in him. I know what Dr. Ezzat does, I’ve seen his work and I think I gave [Cathy] that [same] confidence that she had in me. This is the guy who will do the best work,” he stated.

A Challenging Case

After Cathy’s tumor removal surgery, Dr. Ezzat had a particularly challenging task of reconstructing one side of Cathy’s face that was left with a fist-sized hole. “This was a more difficult reconstruction than if you were to reconstruct the entire nose because now you have to create a reconstruction that closely matches her [right, untouched] side,” Ezzat explained.

Dr. Ezzat used a comprehensive approach, including reconstructive rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty, to restore the functionality and appearance of Cathy’s nose and face. Dr. Ezzat and his team worked closely with Cathy to make sure that she was well-informed and comfortable during each step of the treatment process.

Restoring Lives with Reconstructive Surgery

After successful cancer treatment and facial reconstructive surgery, Cathy is pleased with her results and sees no visible difference in her appearance. She credits Dr. Ezzat and the team at Boston Medical Center for not only saving her life but restoring her life.
Dr. Ezzat and his team’s meticulous patient-centered care helped Cathy return to her very important role as Nana to her grandchildren.
“Being able to give that to my patients puts a smile on my face—it just puts a hop in my step and really drives me to continue to do what I do,” says Ezzat.

Dr. Ezzat is passionate about what he does and is committed to helping his patients feel comfortable and confident in their appearance.
