The end of 2019 has been both busy and rewarding for Dr. Ezzat. After the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) annual meeting, Dr. Ezzat and a handful of AAFPRS surgeons embarked on a mission trip to Vietnam to help educate and train local medical professionals and provide free medical care to Vietnamese citizens in need.
Providing Education and Care to the Community
Throughout the week, Dr. Ezzat gave lectures and performed live surgeries that were observed by the surgeons and streamed into lecture halls where other physicians could watch. He provided care for patients at two different hospitals where he taught the attending plastic surgeons how to identify good candidates for plastic surgery, his surgical approach to correct these conditions, and common pitfalls when providing care.
Addressing Revision Rhinoplasty Concerns
One common facial plastic surgery pitfall that Dr. Ezzat covered was how to handle patients requesting revision rhinoplasty before they’re fully healed from their initial surgery. According to Dr. Ezzat, revision surgery is not something that should be rushed into. He recommends waiting at least 1 year before deciding if revision surgery is needed.
The specific wait time will vary depending on the details of the case. However, not rushing into surgery is the best course of action so that the body has time to heal itself.
Dr. Ezzat’s Takeaways from His Trip
Dr. Ezzat had this to say about his time in Vietnam, “I was really moved by the hospitality of our hosts. I also really enjoyed the opportunity to impart knowledge onto established and budding surgeons in Vietnam with the hope that it might help others.”
Dr. Ezzat was also able to take away an outside perspective of some of the pitfalls of other countries. “It was a learning experience seeing some of the logistical roadblocks we don’t often see in the US, such as traumatic face injuries that were never addressed due to lack of access.”
Sharing his expertise with other surgeons and making a positive impact on patients with challenging circumstances are some of the many reasons Dr. Ezzat loves what he does. Dr. Ezzat is passionate about his work and takes the time to educate and build trust with his patients. Contact us online or call our Boston office today at 857-350-4205to schedule your consultation.
